The proceeds from the shop help support the Church Women United Child Care Center of Baytown, a non-profit facility that offers high-quality, affordable care for infants-5 years for mostly low-income families who have someone attending college or is working. Habitat work sites are places to build relationships as well as houses. It’s a great way to serve others and improve the health of your community. Helping the homeless is one of the most common church outreach activities. Through this approach, Habitat gives partner families a hand up, restoring the hope and dignity that poverty can strip away. Their monthly mortgage payments go into a revolving Fund for Humanity to help fund the construction of more houses. Homeowner families invest hundreds of hours of their own “sweat equity” labor into the homes. Habitat does not build houses for families rather, it builds alongside those who demonstrate need and willingness to partner with Habitat. Habitat is supported by local businesses, civic groups, churches and individual volunteers. The first Baytown Habitat home was completed in September 1991, and since then, they have completed over 40 homes in the Baytown Community alongside families in need. Baytown Habitat for Humanity was incorporated in August 1990.
